About Us


VisionFund Mongolia is a leading microfinance institution established as a subsidiary of VisionFund International, a global microfinance institution operating in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East/Eastern Europe. VisionFund International is a wholly owned subsidiary of World Vision International, a Christian relief development and advocacy organization. Working together, we provide the foundations for local economies to flourish in healthy and safe communities.


We provide financial services to people who would otherwise have little or no access to credit. The well-being of children, families and communities in Mongolia is our main focus. We serve the country’s poorest people by helping them start or grow their own businesses through loans of just a few hundred dollars.


VisionFund Mongolia was established in 2004 as a subsidiary of VisionFund International. World Vision originally began its microfinance and savings programme in 1993, but quickly realised the global need for microfinance and the immense role it played in reducing poverty. VisionFund International was then founded in 2003 to manage its network of affiliated microfinance organisations (MFIs).


Since then, VisionFund International has been lending money to people in need of financial services, helping them to start or grow sustainable businesses. Our clients use the income earned to build a better future for their children, for example, through having clean water, nutritious food, education and healthcare. 

Working in Mongolia

Mongolia sits atop a vast amount of untapped natural resources, and location plays an important role in its economy and environment. Landlocked between Russia and China, Mongolia has shown steady growth in the recent years.


GDP per capita increased over the years and Mongolia is now a middle-income country. Ulaanbaatar, the capital and largest city in Mongolia, is home to about 45% of the population, while about a third are nomadic or semi-nomadic, engaged in livestock herding in the extensive pasturelands.


Currently, 21.6% of people were estimated to live below the national poverty line in 2014. Poverty rates are dropping in urban centres reaching 18.8% while in rural areas it rates higher reaching 26.4%.
While there are hundreds of active creditors in Mongolia, they operate mostly in urban areas and target the wealthy. There is great demand for credit from thousands of urban and rural poor who are denied access to financial services. This is where VisionFund Mongolia steps in to reach the poorest and hardest to reach people.



Uyanga Enkhbold, Operations Manager

Uyanga Enkhbold was appointed as Operations Manager in 2013. She has been with VisionFund Mongolia for 5 years and before that, she served as Marketing and Communications Manager of VisionFund Mongolia. She holds Master of Business Administration from Computer Science and Management School and completed MFI Management training from Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. Her past experience for more than 10 years include working at Communications Department of World Vision Mongolia in 2004-2007 and were in public relations, marketing research/strategy, operation management, business strategy/planning and team management.


Uyanga believes that "Microfinance is most suitable tool out of poverty for economically poor. Mongolia, where most of the business are at micro and small level, it is crucial to have a micro level financing with lower requirements. VisionFund Mongolia is positioned in a unique niche of market targeting to support underserved micro businesses". 



Navchaa Badral, Finance Manager

Navchaa Badral was appointed as Finance Manager in 2013. She holds Master of Business Administration and Management from Northeastern Illinois University in USA and completed training in Strategy, Performance and Risk Management in Microfinance from joint program of Luxembourg Agency for Development Cooperation and ADA. Her past experiences include various research projects, financial and data analysis, financial reporting, marketing, business planning and risk management. 


Navchaa believes that "Majority of our clients are poor women playing dual roles of providers and caregivers. And I believe by offering small loans and other related financial services to these women and households, VFM is helping very poor children meet basic needs, get better education and healthcare". 



Altantuya Ganbaaatar, Human Resource Manager

Altantuya Ganbaatar was appointed as Human Resources Manager in 2011. She has been with VisionFund Mongolia for 5 years and before that, she served as Administration Manager of VisionFund Mongolia. She holds Master of Business Administration specialized in Human Resource, and completed BCHRM course from Mongolian Human Resources Institute and Global Action Leadership Training Program in Philippines. Her past experiences include manpower planning, capacity building, administration and event planning. 


Altantuya is proud of the VFM team, in that everyone in the team contributes their professional skills and efforts with great enthusiasm to the success of VFM, and also for the well-being of communities and children who are the future of Mongolia.

Also she believes that "We are the bridge to those who are poor, and the economically active but they do not have access to financial assistance. We can, serve them to access our financial service and support them to move to the next economic level".  


 VisionFund Mongolia is wholly owned by VisionFund International, and has a board of directors and management team who oversee the work of the MFI.
